Economic Development

The BCA membership invites intelligent and conscientious change and growth to improve Brightwood's commercial and residential areas. Its leadership seeks out and supports development projects that retain positive and historic elements about our community while introducing compatible and desirable new features.  Equally important, BCA leaders act to prevent projects that would be detrimental to the peace, safety, and tranquility of Brightwood.

For information on opportunities to present new development proposals to our membership, please email the BCA Executive Committee or contact the BCA Business Improvement Committee at brightwood-means-business@brightwooddc.com.

Currently Underway and Recently Completed Projects

The Tewkesbury Condos at 6425-14th Street NW (Spring 2010)

The BCA was at the forefront of efforts to get the boards off this dilapidated apartment building, which had blighted the Brightwood neighborhood for over 20 years. DC development firm Blue Skye Construction was selected to renovate the building and restore its 26 spacious units with a mix of affordable and market rate condos.

The Lofts @ Brightwood (2006)
The Neighborhood Development Company purchased the former Carolina Furniture/ Ibex Nightclub building at the intersection of Georgia Avenue NW & Missouri Avenue NW.  The renovated building includes 32 residential units with street level retail space.

Brightwood Bistro (formerly Meridian Restaurant and Bar, 2007)
This new sit-down, full service restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Lofts at Brightwood.

Brightwood Elementary School (2006)
Brightwood's only public elementary school recently underwent a massive addition and modernization program.

CVS Pharmacy (April 2004)
Roadside Development built a new free-standing CVS Pharmacy in the 6500 block of Georgia Avenue.  The new drugstore sits on the site of a long vacant Roy Rogers restaurant.  Within 9 months of operation, the store yielded enough business to become a 24-hour operation.

Rock Creek Gateway (Spring 2004)
The Neighborhood Development Company completed this renovation of a 1940's apartment building to a modern 14-unit condominium building at the eastern edge of Rock Creek Park.
